Aurora 9am 12/21/2010

When I had checked an hour earlier this morning, there was just yellow at 0.1 kp, with one of the predictor sites mentioned in the URL below predicting no geomagnetic activity for Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (and beyond). This is one hour later and geomagnetic activity is upping quite a bit. FYI These are loose reports, unfortunately, that seem updated approximately every two hours (?), so when I checked at 8am PST it was an even earlier update. The site says that this picture is already over an hour old at 9am PST.

One of the predictor sites compiled in the URL had these mentioned:

[The Space Environment Center's Neural Net Program Estimates that
in 15 minutes, the Geomagnetic Activity level (Kp number) will be 0.33 -- Quiet
in 31 minutes, the Geomagnetic Activity level (Kp number) will be 1.33 -- Quiet
in 46 minutes, the Geomagnetic Activity level (Kp number) will be 1 -- Quiet]

The actual activity is already beyond the prediction.

What is interesting is that the lower edge of the field encompasses Ashland, Oregon (!), even though it is a weak field.
